Transactional Analysis (TA)
Overview & Description:
Developed by Eric Berne, Transactional Analysis is a psychotherapeutic approach that explores the interactions (transactions) between individuals. It emphasizes understanding one’s “Life Script” and “Ego States” (Parent, Adult, and Child) to modify behavior.
Example:
In a conversation, an individual might shift between Parent (authoritative), Adult (rational), and Child (emotional) ego states, affecting the interaction’s dynamics.
Implications:
- Communication Training: Enhancing effective communication by recognizing and adjusting ego states.
- Psychotherapy: Helping clients understand their life scripts and modifying maladaptive patterns.
